Assam Government Launches 'Swanirbhar Nari' Scheme for Women Entrepreneurs

The Assam government unveiled the 'Swanirbhar Nari' (Self-Reliant Women) scheme, providing collateral-free loans up to ₹5 lakh to women entrepreneurs in rural areas. The scheme aims to benefit 50,000 women across all 35 districts within the first year. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that self-help groups (SHGs) will serve as the primary implementation channel.

Assam's tea industry recorded a production of 715 million kg for the 2025-26 season, surpassing the previous record. The state accounts for approximately 52% of India's total tea output. The Tea Research Association (TRA) attributed the increase to better rainfall and improved pest management practices. Dibrugarh and Jorhat remain the top tea-producing districts.
